Liverpool news: Pundit fears Mohamed Salah signing ‘ridiculous’ deal after source’s update
Jurgen Klopp will not let Mohamed Salah sign a new Liverpool contract if he makes similar demands to Kylian Mbappe.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the French striker’s “ridiculous” new contract.
As per The Athletic (21 May), PSG have made Mbappe the centre of their commercial operations though he has denied he has any influence over transfers, as quoted by The Guardian (24 May).
A Liverpool source told Football Insider earlier this month (14 May) that Salah, who turns 30 in June, is prepared to compromise on his previous demands of £500,000-a-week.
He is out of contract at the end of next season but Kenny insists there is no chance Liverpool will sanction a new deal if the attacker demands anything like Mbappe’s deal.
“I would like to think Salah wouldn’t do that because the Mbappe thing is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I couldn’t imagine Klopp allowing that in any case. That won’t happen on his watch. Pochettino has been bullied by this contract and Klopp won’t be bullied.
“I just can’t see it happening at Liverpool or anywhere else for that matter. I fear for football if that starts to happen.
“If I was a Liverpool fan, I wouldn’t be worried at all. I think he will sign but not on daft terms like Mbappe.”

Salah won the 2021/22 Premier League golden boot after scoring 23 top-flight goals.
Liverpool finished second, one point behind Manchester City.
