Liverpool news: Pundit issues claim on Sadio Mane joining league rivals after twist

Sadio Mane will not sign for a Premier League rival if he leaves Liverpool this summer.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s future.

The Athletic reported on Wednesday (1 June) that Bayern Munich are leading the race for Mane, 30, and the Reds want around £42.5million as he enters the final year of his contract.

The Senegal international wants to pursue a new challenge after a six-year trophy-laden stint at Anfield.

As quoted by BBC Sport (4 June), speaking after Senegal’s win over Benin, Mane claimed “60%-70%” Senegal fans want him to leave Liverpool before going on to say “I will do what they want”.

When asked if Mane could sign for another Premier League side, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “No, I think he will go out of the Premier League.

“They will be disappointed with how the season ended but they still won two domestic cups and they were so close to winning all four.

“Why you would want to leave Liverpool? I find it very strange. Sometimes people need a fresh challenge.

“He might want to move away, who knows? For me, I think he could go abroad. Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid.

Mane has scored 120 goals in 270 total appearances for Liverpool.

He joined the club from Southampton in the summer of 2016.
