Liverpool news: Pundit ‘worried’ about Joe Gomez after source update

Joe Gomez “needs” to leave Liverpool this summer in search of regular game time, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a loan move is the most likely path for the 24-year-old this summer.

Gomez has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield since the arrival of Ibrahima Konate.

An Aston Villa source told Football Insider (21 February) that the club have set their sights on the centre-half ahead of the summer window.

The Reds could be forced to accept an offer in the region of £30million when the transfer window re-opens.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Gomez’s future, Campbell said: “I think Gomez is going to have to leave.

“Let’s be honest, he is fourth choice centre-half at Liverpool right now. He needs to play football.

“If Liverpool don’t want to sell him then perhaps he will leave on loan.

“Gomez is a top-class player who is still young. He needs game time though. He really needs minutes.

“Injuries have not been good to him and that is why he finds himself down the pecking order. What he needs is regular game time and I worry that he is not going to get that at Liverpool.”

Gomez has made 13 appearances across all competitions this season.

His contract runs until the summer of 2024.
