Liverpool plotting to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement as new manager details revealed – sources

Liverpool could move for a new right-back in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (27 February) that the Reds have made defensive reinforcements their “top priority” after the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a right-back could also be on the agenda in the summer transfer window.

It is believed a deal could hinge on Liverpool’s next manager and his appetite to further develop Alexander-Arnold in the hybrid midfield role that he has made his own over the last 12 months.

Conor Bradley, 20, has recently emerged from the club’s academy and made a sensational first-team impact but sources say the Reds will nevertheless move for a new full-back if Alexander-Arnold is transformed into a full-time midfielder.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is the first choice manager target for Liverpool – but Football Insider revealed on Monday (26 February) that he is settled and happy in Germany at present.

Alexander-Arnold has played in a hybrid role for Klopp in the 2023-24 campaign, notching two goals and 10 assists in 29 appearances.

Bradley has filled in for the England international during his injury problems – notching one goal and five assists in 12 outings.

Liverpool

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (11 February) that Alexander-Arnold is set to be offered a long-term bumper contract by Liverpool – with his current deal up in June 2025.

Natural centre-back Joe Gomez has also filled in at right-back in recent seasons.
