Kieran Maguire: Liverpool ‘want all the cash for themselves’ as £250m battle begins
It is no surprise to see Liverpool behave obstinately amid ongoing talks over the future distribution of cash from the Premier League to the EFL.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest behind-the-scenes news from Premier League HQ.
It was widely reported earlier this year that Premier League clubs were close to agreeing a “New Deal for Football” that would see £250million filter down from the top flight to the rest of the pyramid.

But The Times reported on Tuesday (21 September) that the ‘Big Six’ are at odds with the rest of the top flight over where the cash should be drawn from.
Liverpool and their peers believe that contributions should be split on an equal basis, whereas the rest of the Premier League want the riches teams to pay more.
Maguire assessed the latest developments and the “greed” they represent from the Big Six.
“The trickle-down economics manifesto of the Big Six clubs means that want to generate more money themselves and want to keep it all to themselves,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The plan is for there to be a greater distribution of money to the EFL as a means of reducing the cliff edge between the Premier League and the Championship.

“But the Big Six clubs, who were very vocal in terms of having a more proportionate share of money from overseas TV deals, want that cost to be shared equally between all 20 Premier League clubs.
“This is indicative of their ultimately capitalist psyche. For them, greed is good.”
