Liverpool work on striker signing as Dortmund talks advance – sources

Liverpool will look elsewhere for a new striker as Borussia Dortmund are set to sign Maximilian Beier, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the 21-year-old, but Dortmund are now in advanced talks over a deal.

The sale of Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham has facilitated the German outfit’s move for Beier and they are now pushing to complete his signing quickly.

Dortmund have seen off interest from Premier League clubs for the striker’s signature as he was keen to remain in Germany.

A new striker remains the top priority for the new-look recruitment team at Anfield before the window closes on 30 August, but they will now be forced to look elsewhere.

Liverpool target new striker signing after Maximilian Beier transfer news

Beier appeared on the radar of some of Europe’s elite clubs this summer after an impressive season for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old found the net 16 times in 33 league games while also picking up three assists as he enjoyed a breakthrough season in the German top flight.

With 139 senior appearances to his name despite his young age, the striker has established himself as one of the hottest young talents in Europe.

However, with Dortmund now his most likely destination after their talks reached an advanced stage, Liverpool will be forced to turn their attention elsewhere.

Inconsistent displays from both Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, as well as questions about their best roles in Arne Slot’s team, have led the Reds to target a new centre-forward.

Football Insider revealed on 5 August that there had been strong interest in Dominic Solanke before the striker sealed a move to Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres is another name on the list of the recruitment team at Anfield amid competition from Arsenal for the Sporting CP striker.
