‘Lured away’ – Celtic legend gives verdict on future of star man as speculation continues

Celtic legend Murdo MacLeod feels that Kieran Tierney will eventually leave Celtic, but not until he has helped the club win their tenth title in a row.

The 20-year-old has had to endure plenty of speculation about his future in recent weeks, with BBC Sport reporting that Atletico Madrid were interesting in signing him and the Daily Mail reporting Bournemouth’s interest.

MacLeod thinks that the player, a fanatical Hoops fan, will want to help the Bhoys win the unprecedented tenth title in a row before considering what to do about his future.

“At some point I do think he will be lured away – but not yet” he said, as quoted by BT Sport.

“Right now he is desperate for 10 in a row.

“He wants to be here for that, because that will become such a big part of the history of the football club.

“He doesn’t have to be in a rush to move.”

At only 20-years-old, Tierney has many years of football ahead of him, provided he manages to steer clear of any injuries.

Football Insider verdict

MacLeod’s comments make sense, the player will not be in any hurry to leave, as he is a fan who is playing for the club he loves and he is still at the very beginning of his career. However, if the Hoops are offered a huge amount of money in the summer for the player perhaps they would have a decision to make about his future, although it does seem highly unlikely that any bid would be accepted for Tierney at this moment in time. As well as winning 10 titles in a row, he will want to make the Hoops more successful in Europe. Both of his Champions League campaigns for the Bhoys have seen the side take some heavy defeats, which is something he, Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the staff in the East End of Glasgow will dramatically want to improve on next season, as the Hoops look to make progress in Europe, after dominating in Scotland for two seasons.
