Maguire could face extended spell out after Man United update – pundit
Man United captain Harry Maguire could face an extended period on the sidelines, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Premier League goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 28-year-old may struggle to get back into Ralf Rangnick’s starting XI amid his “poor” form.
Maguire missed the 1-0 loss at home to Wolves on Monday night through injury.
Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game (3 January), Rangnick revealed the centre-half suffered a knock to his chest in the win over Burnley that made it “impossible” for him to play yesterday.
Maguire has come under widespread criticism for his performances this season.
When asked by Football Insider if the England star would return to the starting XI when fully fit, Robinson said: “Maguire’s been poor recently.
“He’s not been anywhere near the standards he has set himself. In all honesty, it’s been a while since he played well.
“Rangnick has been wanting to work on United defensively because they have not been good enough.
“If you are not playing well and a player replaces you and plays well your place is under threat. Nobody is irreplaceable.
“Maguire is the captain though so it would take a very good performance for someone else to move ahead of him in the pecking order.”

Phil Jones replaced Maguire in the starting XI for last night’s clash against Wolves and impressed.
The 29-year-old completed 90 per cent of his passes, three tackles, two clearances and two interceptions.
