‘Major impact’ – Exclusive: Robinson compares 2018 Wolves signing to big-name Liverpool star

Paul Robinson has been left raving over the impact that Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio has had since his arrival at Molineux back in 2018.

The former Tottenham and England shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 32-year-old’s influence is comparable to that of Alisson at Liverpool, albeit on a lesser scale.

Patricio, who joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s men from Sporting CP upon Wolves’ promotion back to the Premier League, immediately establishing himself as the club’s first-choice between the sticks.

While Robinson admits he would like to see the Midlands outfit keep more clean sheets, he cannot criticise the Portugal international for his performances since moving to England.

Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s had a major impact at Wolves, I think he’s had the same, not on the same scale, sort of impact as Alisson’s had at Liverpool.

“Wolves might have struggled but defensively they’ve been very, very sound. They play three at the back regularly, they’ve got a real spine through the team and that’s been constant throughout the year.

“Patricio’s been a big part of what they do. I don’t think they’ve kept as many clean sheets as they’d have like to but I still think his performances have been good enough.”

Having played 460 times at Sporting, Patricio has gone on to make 74 appearances for Wolves across all competitions, with 37 of those coming this season.

The 87-cap international has 11 clean sheets under his belt, including keeping out Manchester United, Leicester City and Espanyol in his last three appearances.

In other Wolves news, Alan Hutton has been left drooling over one Molineux talent he hated to play against.
