Man City 115 charges: Keith Wyness drops verdict on £100m update
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man City’s uncharacteristic summer spending has nothing to do with their outstanding 115 charges.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Pep Guardiola will have seen no reason to add too much to his all-conquering squad in the off-season.
According to Transfermarkt, Man City banked almost £100million in the summer transfer window – with winger Savinho and returning club legend Ilkay Gundogan the only two arrivals.
Stars like Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Sergio Gomez and Tommy Doyle all left the Etihad Stadium to present a healthy profit for City.
The English champions face an independent commission later this month after being charged by the Premier League with 115 alleged rule breaches last year (2023).
‘Business as usual’ at Man City despite paltry transfer spend, says Wyness
City have always insisted they have done nothing wrong and an outcome is expected sometime in 2025.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think the transfer spending has anything to do with the 115 charges.
“I just think they’re happy with their squad, the same as Liverpool – there was no big spending required.
“Both clubs felt they had decent squads, they were happy to add if needed – but no glaring holes needed to be filled.

“All Pep has done is refresh, and it’s business at usual.
“City are purring away as we expect them to be.”
