Man City 115 charges: Keith Wyness taken aback by latest twist – ‘this is the biggest story right now’

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has accused the Premier League of kicking Man City’s 115 outstanding charges into the long grass.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Citizens’ case is “the biggest story right now”.

Last year, Man City were charged by the Premier League with 115 financial breaches spanning nine seasons.

Their case is yet to be heard by an independent commission but top-flight CEO Richard Masters has confirmed a date has been set – which is widely believed to be in 2025.

Meanwhile, both Everton and Nottingham Forest have been punished for one breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) despite being charged after City.

Man City case has been ‘kicked into the long grass’ by Premier League, says Wyness

The Etihad Stadium outfit have been vastly successful since their Abu Dhabi-backed takeover in 2008, winning seven league titles, one Champions League and three FA Cups.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Premier League are saying nothing about Man City, they’re being very tight-lipped.

“Once again, the issue of City’s charges is being brought up again – this is the biggest story right now.

“The question is, when will the hearings happen?

“Once again, it’s being kicked into the long grass. There’s no transparency from Richard Masters.

“We’re being told a date has been set next year, with a lengthy appeal process – it’s hard to know what is going to happen.

“I still believe that additional legal resources could have been brought in. These charges could have been categorised and grouped together.

“That would make it easier to handle.

“I’d certainly like to see how City’s legal bills are being accounted for in their accounts because we know they have lawyered up. I’d like to see that.”
