Man City could now be relegated ‘just like Rangers’ as new details emerge on 115 charges – Wyness
Man City now facing relegation from the Premier League? Former Everton chief drops bombshell after analysis
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted relegation “has to be on the table” for Man City if their alleged financial breaches are proven.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – cited the example of Rangers, who were dropped into the fourth tier of Scottish football in 2012 after liquidation.
12 months ago, Man City were charged by the Premier League with 115 financial breaches spanning nine seasons – but their case is yet to be heard by an independent commission.
Last month, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters confirmed a date has been set for the charges to be heard – but refused to make it public.
City have rigorously denied any wrongdoing – with the investigation against them starting in 2018.
Everton have already had their breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules ruled upon by an independent commission this season, who handed down a historic 10-point deduction.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “As I understand it, there are maybe only two or three categories those 115 charges fit into.
“It may be that it isn’t so complex after all.
“There are multiple charges within each certain category. I think the Premier League should have drafted in additional legal resources to get this handled and dealt with earlier.
“In terms of relegation, I think if these breaches are proven to be as egregious as they have been claimed to be – then it has to be on the table.

“We saw it with Rangers in Scotland with their EBT and tax issues. It wouldn’t be the first time it had happened.
“These charges seem to be pretty serious, as I understand it.”
