Man City fans: Kyle Walker told to ‘retire’ after what he did v Liverpool

Man City fans are calling for Kyle Walker to retire at the end of the season as a result of his performance v Liverpool at Anfield.

Pep Guardiola’s side continued their miserable run of form as they were beaten 2-0 by league leaders Liverpool after goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.

However, the spotlight for the travelling fans was fixed on the performance of their captain as he once again struggled to deal with the opposition’s attackers.

Gakpo’s opening goal came as the Dutchman was able to slip behind Walker, with the 34-year-old entirely unaware of his presence, to tap in Mohamed Salah’s cross.

He was also tasked with marking Virgil van Dijk from set pieces, allowing the Liverpool captain some clear-cut chances at goal which he failed to take.

However, Walker’s below-par display came off the back of a number of worrying performances which have led many to suggest he is “finished” at the top level.

Football Insider revealed on 26 November that Man City staff have raised concerns about the right-back’s recent performances and there is a growing feeling that his level has dropped.

Man City fans have now begun to echo those concerns, and are questioning Guardiola’s reasoning for constantly selecting Walker despite his struggles.

This is not the first time City supporters have made their complaints known about the right-back, after they slammed into him for his performance in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Now, they have taken to social media during the clash with Liverpool to insist he should call an end to his time at City, labelling him “horrendous” and “embarrassing” and with some going as far as to suggest he would “retire”.
