Man City news: Phil Foden ‘scared’ after being ‘terrorised’ by two Atletico men – pundit

Man City star Phil Foden was scared of Filipe and Stefan Savić as he struggled to perform to his usual levels during Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Man City drew 0-0 with Atletico (13 April).

Foden, 21, was caught in the head by Filipe during an early challenge, for which he was heavily bandaged by Man City medical staff.

At the end of the game, the Atletico man lashed out at the attacker following a clean tackle with the Felipe seeing a second yellow.

McAvennie claims Foden wasn’t the same after his first-half clash.

“Felipe and Savic terrorised Foden, it’s the first time I’ve seen him scared,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He didn’t want the ball, it was incredible. When he did get the all he didn’t turn and run.

“He just passed it backwards. He is only a boy, so it’s a learning curve for him.

“He will learn from that because he’s a massive talent. It was just incredible to see because he usually has so much energy.

“It looked like he didn’t want it so hopefully he bounces back.”

The late challenge on Foden sparked a fracas on the pitch with several players booked in the aftermath.

City will now play Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals as they look to reach the final for the second year in a row.
