Man City news: Pundit issues ‘big’ Bernardo Silva claim after star’s confession
Alan Hutton has suggested Pep Guardiola was keen to keep Bernardo Silva at Man City this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Silva is Guardiola’s type of player but insisted he will still change his squad from game to game.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (1 September), the 28-year-old said it “wasn’t a tough decision” to stay at City ahead of this season.
The Portugal international added that there was only one offer from one club that was “easy” for the midfielder to turn down.
His current contract at the Etihad expires in 2025.
Silva started for the Cityzens in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday (3 September).
When asked if Silva will continue to be in the starting lineup, Hutton told Football Insider: “You never know, we’ll have to wait and see but Pep Guardiola talks so highly of him.
“He seems to love him to bits, he seems to love him as a player. That’s his type of player. I think if he continues to play at the level and does everything that Pep asks him to then there’s no reason for him not to go on and have a good season.
“That being said, we know Pep likes to change his squad from game to game. As a footballer it can be annoying at times, at the biggest clubs you just have to respect the manager’s decision and know he’s going to rotate.

“But you want a run of games, you want to play at a level and to do that you need to play week in week out.
“So, you can understand some of these big players’ frustrations at getting dropped here and there but I think if he gets the game time that he’s looking for, then I think he’ll be happy.“
