Man City ready ‘huge-money’ bids as astonishing January spree intensifies

Man City are prepared to continue spending “huge money” in the January transfer window after their recent transfer activity.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that City’s business is far from over and they are already lining up new bids.

Football Insider revealed on 12 January that City have made funds available for a new signing amid links to Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni.

Now, Pep Guardiola’s side are closing in on the signings of Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Omar Marmoush in the coming days after agreeing terms with all three.

They are also eyeing a move to sign Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, while a new central midfielder has also been a key target this month.

Brown told Football Insider that City have set their sights on landing a new midfielder, and have been forced to address a number of key areas in their starting XI.

There is also likely to be some outgoing activity before the 3 February deadline, with Kyle Walker and James McAtee both heavily linked with moves away from the Etihad.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that player sales will likely inspire even more spending to fill out their squad, with any money to be reinvested.

I’m told they’re going to keep spending,” he told Football Insider.

“There are so many concerns they’ve got in that team that need resolving, and by the looks of things they’re going to address those issues in the transfer window.

“They’ve moved quickly to get these deals done, but they’re not done yet.

“I think they’re going to keep spending huge money on players because they know who they want and the positions they want to strengthen.

“Most of the time, they get the player they want even if they have to spend over the odds.

“I don’t think they’ve got any concerns about their finances either, because they’ve made quite a lot of money from selling players recently.

“If they sell Walker and maybe a couple of others, they’ll need to spend even more, and the money from those sales will help towards that.

“So yes, I’m expecting them to continue spending a lot of money to help resolve the issues they’ve had.”
