Man City v Premier League: Keith Wyness hits out over new ‘spin’ war

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has hit out at media “spin” on both sides of the Premier League’s fight with Man City over Associated Party Transactions (APT) rules.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed it is likely there will be “adjustments” to the rulebook on both sides of the contentious legal clash.

The Times reported on 26 September that Man City appear to have scored a significant victory in the case after a vote on an amendment to the APT system was dropped from the latest top-flight meeting.

Sources have told Football Insider (27 September) that there haven’t yet been any wholesale changes to the APT rules in the Premier League handbook.

A two-week private arbitration hearing took place in June, with City arguing the current rules are anti-competitive and unlawful.

Man City and Premier League likely to make concessions in APT case, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “No one knows anything yet, these are the facts.

“There are rumours from both sides, but no one knows.

“Even the clubs who are paying the legal bill for the league to challenge City, don’t know.

“So they’re footing the bill without knowing what the decision is.

Man City

“We’ve got to find out. I believe it will be a score draw, with some adjustments to these rules on both sides.

“We’ll have to wait and see. At the moment, it’s just spinning in the media from both sides.”
