Man United backed to agree ‘big’ Ivan Toney deal after source’s reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Brentford will demand a “big fee” for Ivan Toney as Man United contemplate a move.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Toney would be a good option for United.

On 23 April, sources told this site that the Red Devils remain interested in signing the 27-year-old and have been closely monitoring his availability.

United are in the market for a new striker but have concerns around submitting a bid for Toney whilst his gambling investigation rumbles on in the background.

The England international’s current contract at Brentford runs until 2025 after joining from Peterborough in 2020.

Erik ten Hag’s side have also been eyeing up a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the summer.

When asked if Toney could be a good alternative if United can’t secure a deal for Kane, Hutton told Football Insider:It is an interesting one.

For somebody who has scored so many goals for Brentford this season I do not see why not.

Why would it not work? He has got the ability to go and play for a top level team.

It would be interesting to see how much money would be involved, that is the big thing.

He is still young enough, you can see he is hungry. I think it is definitely a good option but it all comes down to the fee that Brentford will be looking for because I think it will be big.
