Finance guru issues ‘incredible’ Man United claim amid £233m Cristiano Ronaldo offer

Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered an “incredible” sum to go and play in Saudi Araba – but the Man United superstar is unlikely to accept it at this point.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about what the future holds for the wantaway 37-year-old.

The legendary forward has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford just one season after he re-signed from Juventus.

The Athletic reported last Friday (15 July) that Ronaldo has been offered £233million over two years to play for an unnamed Saudi club.

That figure equates to an astonishing £2.24m per week, and it is understood that the club is willing to pay a transfer fee of £25m to the Red Devils.

Plumley assessed the numbers and claimed that the Portuguese striker is unlikely to head to the Middle East.

“They are incredible numbers,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I think there is a lot of PR involved because it’s Ronaldo and United. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given what we’ve seen in other sports in the Middle East. The money is there. The trick is, can you pull it off?

“Big superstars have gone there before. If you can pull it off, there is phenomenal branding, marketing and PR attached.

“So, it probably could happen with other players but not with Ronaldo right now.”

Man United

Ronaldo has not travelled with United for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

He was recently spotted using the training facilities of Sheffield United as he gears up for the 2022-23 campaign.
