Kieran Maguire issues ‘monstrosities’ claim after Man United U-turn
The failure of Project Big Picture and the Super League has forced Man United owners the Glazers to pay for upgrades at Carrington.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ plans to transform their training base.
As per the Daily Mail last Thursday (23 December) United are planning to expand Old Trafford by 6,000 seats.

It is also understood that there are designs to overhaul the Carrington complex and create one of the world’s best training facilities.
The Glazers were one of the driving forces behind Project Big Picture October 2020 and the Super League in April the following year.
Both plans were scrapped in the face of widespread dissent among fans.
Maguire claims that the collapse of the two proposals forced the Glazers to U-turn on their plans to outsource funding for the Carrington development.
“Here’s the interesting thing,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“This is actually one of the legacy issues of the failure of the Glazers to push through Project Big Picture and the Super League.
“If you look at the small print for both of those monstrosities, there were going to be central funds available for infrastructure development.
“Because the Glazers were involved in both of those, I suspect they put any capital structure projects on hold.
“They knew it was effectively going to be paid for out of a central pot rather than out of their coffers.
“Now that Big Picture and Super League are not on the menu, they’ve not much choice.
“Man United have, I think it’s fair to say, failed since Sir Alex retired. In an industry where marginal gains are key, having players in top condition is big.
“United have fallen behind so I don’t think they have many alternatives here.”

United are currently 6th in the league table, four points outside the Champions League spots.
