Man United must reject £50m offer as they pave way for Viktor Gyokeres bid

Man United could capitalise on Real Madrid’s £50m interest in Diogo Dalot to fund Ruben Amorim’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

Dalot has featured prominently since Amorim’s arrival, but his system has seen Amad Diallo emerge as a viable alternative at wing-back.

The Ivorian is expected to extend his contract at the club and has delivered six goal involvements in his last five games for the Red Devils, showcasing his impressive form despite major changes in the dug out.

Selling Dalot could provide the funds needed to pursue Viktor Gyokeres, the prolific Sporting Lisbon striker who Amorim previously coached.

The forward has been in sensational form this season, scoring an incredible 16 goals in 12 league matches, and 24 in 21 matches in all competitions for Lisbon, making him one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

An offer from the Spanish giants for the Portuguese full-back could be difficult to refuse, particularly given the Red Devils’ financial constraints after Erik ten Hag’s summer spending spree.

Man United to sell Diogo Dalot to part-fund Viktor Gyokeres transfer?

Football Insider opinion

Last season the Red and White Army had a league high 45 separate injuries, making it hard to believe that the 25-year-old full-back had played in all but two of their matches.

According to Fbref, Dalot has not made an error (defined as a mistake leading to an opponent’s shot) in all of 2024-25.

The same cannot be said for fellow defenders Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala, who have all made errors in significantly less minutes than the Portuguese. It is fair to say that he has been one of, if not the most reliable player in a red shirt last season season.

Offensively, the Red Devils defender’s eight goals and assists last term was his best return for United and double his output from the previous campaign season.

His overlapping runs beyond the attackers have been more noticeable than ever and are a welcome addition to a United right flank that has so little firepower in the final third.

This season Dalot has been crucial for the Red Devils starting every game in the Premier League and that was recognised last season when his peers voted him the club’s players’ player of the year award.

Amorim cannot afford to let a player of his importance depart Old Trafford.
