Man United news: Erik ten Hag set to offload Cristiano Ronaldo as ‘£100m’ claim issued – pundit

Erik ten Hag may be ready to bin Cristiano Ronaldo if he takes over at Man United this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Ten Hag will not be bothered if Ronaldo brings in “£100million” worth of commercial revenue.

A United source told Football Insider earlier this week (11 April) that the club are set to trigger Ten Hag’s £1.7million Ajax release clause and he is expected to accept the job.

An announcement could be made after Ajax’s KNVB Cup final clash against PSV Eindhoven on Sunday (17 April).

“There are some big, big problems for the new manager coming in,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Ten Hag will be thinking, he will only take the job on his terms. If he doesn’t want to play Ronaldo, then he won’t play it.

“If he doesn’t want certain players then he’s not going to play them. He won’t care that Ronaldo brings in £100million in shirt sales or whatever it can be.

“If he’s taking the job, he will do it his way. He can’t have any passengers. Man City and Liverpool have no passengers. Every player was tracking back and flying around.

“Ronaldo is a great goalscorer but if you put him in Liverpool or Man City’s team he would be a passenger. You’ve got to do more than score goals.”

Ronaldo has scored 18 times in 33 games for United this season but has contributed little else.

United are down in seventh, six points behind Spurs in fourth with one win in their last five Premier League games.
