Man United news: Ex-Uefa official demands Fifa investigation as Marcus Rashford caught up in new controversy
The Fifa technical committee should investigate the processes around Neco Williams’ head injury after a shot from Man United star Marcus Rashford in Wales’ 3-0 loss to England on Tuesday night (29 December).
That is the view of ex-Fifa and Uefa referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “inappropriate manner” in which Williams’ injury was dealt with.
Rashford launched a powerful shot that Williams blocked with his head and he received treatment as a result.
The 21-year-old played decided to play on before being substituted shortly after when he decided he was unable to continue.
“We’ve seen during the World Cup that they are not dealing with head injuries in the appropriate manner,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“We had Williams who took the ball absolutely smack on and eventually he came off, clearly suffering from concussion.
“We got the right result, don’t get me wrong, but, in my opinion it was the player leading the decision and not the medical staff. He played on for a little bit.
“At the World Cup we’ve had sufficient instances where I think the referee’s committee and Fifa should say ‘We need a different approach’.
“That’s what the technical committee is there for, to look at these things and make recommendations.”

Williams started all three of Wales’ World Cup group games as they crashed out of the tournament at the first hurdle.
The 21-year-old moved to Nottingham Forest from Liverpool in the summer and has featured in all 15 of their Premier League games in the first part of the season.
