Man United told blunt Dan Ashworth truth after Ratcliffe ‘complaints’ – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has told Man United they will have to “pay the money” if they want Dan Ashworth at the club this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the solution is “pretty simple” despite the “complaints” of United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ashworth was placed on gardening leave at St James’ Park in February after agreeing to join Man United.
Football Insider revealed on 1 May that Newcastle will only fast-track the transfer guru’s move to Man United once they have secured a replacement.
It has been widely reported that the Magpies are demanding around £20million in compensation to green-light the move.
Wyness tells Man United blunt truth about Ashworth appointment
Speaking after completing the London Marathon last month, Ratcliffe claimed gardening leave is “a real issue in football” in a frustrated dig at the state of negotiations.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This is another thing which has become unnecessarily long.
“He’s on gardening leave, and Jim Ratcliffe has spoken about that – complaining after the London Marathon.
“But I’m afraid that if he wants Ashworth to come in, he’s just got to pay the money.
“That’s pretty simple.

“For Newcastle, they will have had long-term plans in place – they just won’t have Ashworth there to execute them.
“It’s always a fluid situation as you come into a transfer window. One bad tackle and the whole plan changes dramatically.”
