Man United told to accept Harry Maguire offer amid ‘£30m’ claim – ‘he missed a trick,’ says pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Man United will struggle to get back half of what they paid for Harry Maguire if they sell him in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Maguire “missed a trick” by not going out on loan last month.

According to the Daily Mail (13 February), the Red Devils are willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old this summer but fear they may only recoup half of the £80million they paid in 2019.

According to the Daily Star (30 January), the centre-back rejected an offer from Inter Milan to spend the rest of the season with them on loan.

Maguire’s current contract runs until 2025 and includes the option of a further year.

But the England international has fallen way down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has started just five Premier League games under Erik ten Hag.

When asked if United need to take what they can get for Maguire in the summer, Hutton told Football Insider:They are maybe getting to that stage.

He is a really good defender, they probably paid over the odds for him at the time.

Does he fit into that Ten Hag way? Is he going to come out with the ball, be confident, spread the passes about? I am not so sure.

If they are to sell him, could they get £30/£35m for him? Possibly. It is still a lot of money so they are going to have to take a hit on him.

If I was him I would have left on loan. If you are not going to play from now until the end of the season why not go to Inter Milan, play football, get your confidence back, to then come back a better player.

I think he has maybe missed a trick there.

In other news, according to sources, Man United are ready to listen to Scott McTominay offer amid ‘£25m’ reveal.
