Man United transfer news: Christopher Nkunku talks could hit the rocks amid Anthony Elanga claim – pundit
Man United should not move for red-hot RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku if he will block the development of Anthony Elanga, according to Paul Robinson.
The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, implored the Old Trafford club to give the 19-year-old Swede a “chance”.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg (11 April), Man United have held internal talks over the potential signing of Nkunku this summer.
The RB Leipzig star has netted 30 goals in 43 games across all competitions this term.
Meanwhile, Elanga has notched three senior goals from 20 appearances in an impressive breakthrough season.
When asked if Nkunku’s potential arrival could stunt the development of the Old Trafford youngster, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “That’s the thing.
“Man United have to make sure they’re bringing in better players.
“When you’ve got youngsters like Elanga, there’s no point bringing in a player of equal ability or lesser ability.
“You have to give these players the chance. I certainly wouldn’t be bringing Nkunku in if it was going to stop the development of Elanga.”
Nkunku could be the first signing under incoming boss Erik ten Hag.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (11 April), Man United are set to trigger Ten Hag’s £1.7million release clause at Ajax to make him their new manager.

The midfielder, who made his senior France debut last month, is contracted to Leipzig until June 2024.
Man United sit seventh in the Premier League and could be playing in the Europa Conference League next term.
