Man United transfer news: Erik ten Hag braced for biggest-ever overhaul – pundit

Erik ten Hag must overhaul the Man United squad before attempting to fix off-field issues.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “big mess” facing the current Ajax boss.

Man United’s season hopes of finishing in the top four took another blow on Tuesday night (19 April) as Liverpool beat them 4-0 at Anfield.

The result leaves the Red Devils sixth in the table with Tottenham and Arsenal, the sides above them, both having games in hand.

A United source told this site (11 April), Man United have chosen Ten Hag as their next permanent manager and are set to trigger his release clause at Ajax.

When asked what Ten Hag needs to do on day one in his new role, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “For him, you have got a big mess to sort out.

“There is stuff off the pitch that needs sorting but first and foremost they need to decide which players are going to stay.

“For me, a lot of those players need moving on now. I think that’s his first job, who stays and who goes.

“Whatever is going on off the pitch, you need results on it. It’s strange to see Man United in this position and it shouldn’t be happening.

“It’s just one thing after another at Man United now and if anything. it’s getting worse.

“They want the season to be over and I’m sure the fans feel the same way at this point.”

Speaking to Sky Sports after his side’s loss to Liverpool, Bruno Fernades offered an apology to the travelling fans,

The Red Devils are next in action against Arsenal on Saturday (23 April).
