Man United transfer news: Five defenders who could join after source’s reveal today

Man United are set for a huge overhaul of their playing squad this summer following the recent arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS organisation.

And one area of the team that the club’s recruitment team are prioritising is in defence, with movement expected in both directions.

At the top of the list of priorities will be a new centre-back, with sources telling Football Insider on Monday (8 April) that United are set to allow Raphael Varane to leave on a free transfer this summer and new details emerging today that the club now want to sign two new central defenders.

Football Insider analyses five players that Man United could target to replace the 30-year-old.

Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton)

Everton Man United

Everton have been massively impacted by financial issues in recent times, with their behind-the-scenes troubles resulting in points deductions this season.

And such issues could force the Toffees into the sale of star defender Branthwaite this summer, with sources telling Football Insider last month that the 21-year-old is Man United’s top target.

Leny Yoro (Lille)

The Red Devils could look further afield for a new central defender, with Lille ace Yoro a potential option this summer.

The 18-year-old has been hugely impressive in Ligue 1 and in the Europa Conference League this season, with the teenager already boasting over 50 appearances for the French outfit.

Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice)

Man United

Man United have another French-based defender in their sights in the form of 24-year-old Nice ace Todibo, who is a long-term target at Old Trafford.

Sources told Football Insider last month that senior figures at the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to block a deal from the Red Devils for the player, but a switch could still be on the cards given how the clubs now have a shared ownership under Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Gleison Bremer (Juventus)

Juventus centre-back Bremer has been a regular for the Serie A giants this season as they bid to get back to their very best after several disappointing campaigns.

Sources told Football Insider in January that the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign the 27-year-old, who has four Brazil caps to his name.

Max Kilman (Wolves)

Wolves

Wolves captain Kilman boasts plenty of big-game experience, having progressed his game at the very top level for several years now.

The Times reported earlier this month that the 26-year-old, who has played every minute available in the Premier League this season, is on an Old Trafford shortlist of centre-backs for the summer transfer window.
