Manchester United eye La Liga right-sided flyer, £30m move on the cards – report
Manchester Untied are interested in signing defender Joao Cancelo from La Liga club Valencia, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claims that Jose Mourinho’s side are considering a £30million move for the right-back and that manager Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen that position.
It is understood that Inter Milan have a clause to turn the 23-year-old loan switch with them into a permanent one, but are yet to activate it and that has alerted United to his potential signature.
The report details that Southampton’s Cedric Soars is another full-back on United’s radar, as they try to find competition for Antonio Valencia.
Football Insider verdict:
Man Untied will need some extra depth in their squad going into next season if they are to challenge Man City for the Premier League crown and a young understudy to captain Valencia makes perfect sense in defence. Cancelo is a right-sided flyer renowned for his blistering pace and he likes to bomb forward into attack. He could be set for a top career in football if he develops properly and Mourinho could help get the best out of his Portuguese compatriot. However, he is yet to play in the Premier League before and a raid for Southampton’s Cedric may make more sense. He has proven himself to be a highly consistent player with the Saints and had adjusted well to English football. Valencia looks set to continue as the first-choice right-back going into next year, but he definitely needs someone behind him pushing to break into the starting XI.
