PL giants make emphatic decision in hunt for Celtic senior player – report

Premier League giants Manchester United have Celtic star Kieran Tierney on a potential shortlist of players they are interested in signing, according to a report.
The Daily Record are claiming that Tierney, 20, and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon are left-backs wanted by United manager Jose Mourinho as the pair fit the mould of being younger and cheaper options compared to the fees commanded by Juventus for Alex Sandro.
It is understood that Sandro is the first choice of Mourinho – but would cost a whopping £62million, so the Champions League side have made the emphatic decision to start looking at domestic options like Tierney and Sessegnon.
Celtic senior player Tierney recently signed a new contract until 2023 with the Scottish champions and has given no indication of wanting to leave the club he grew up supporting and has captained at times this season.
The report adds that the Hoops are also keen to keep hold of the Scotland international, who won’t be pushing for an exit.
Football Insider verdict
Whilst Jose Mourinho may well be a fan of Tierney, the time just doesn’t seem right for him to depart Celtic. Whilst he may be an excellent prospect who will go on to have a great career, he still has a lot to learn about the game at the highest level. If you look at his performances in the Champions League group stages often he has shown some defensive naivety, and whilst you can get away with that at Celtic Park, you won’t be able to at Old Trafford. Tierney may well leave the Hoops in the new few years but now doesn’t seem the right time for him to leave Glasgow.
