Marc-Andre ter Stegen to Tottenham? Update amid ‘surprise’ interest

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been suffering with injury at Barcelona as he eyes up the possibility of leaving La Liga.

The German shot stopper has been stuck on the sidelines since having lower back surgery in July 2025 and has witnessed waves of fresh talent arriving at the Camp Nou.

Sources told Football Insider that teammate Marcus Rashford has a good chance of making his Barcelona loan permanent in the summer, as one of a few players the goalkeeper has had to watch from the stands rather than on the pitch.

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton tipped Ter Stegen to join Tottenham back in October 2022 with Thomas Frank now eager to sign him.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s lack of minutes make potential Tottenham move a bizarre one

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Lilywhites are exploring the possibility of bringing the German international to the Premier League.

Even though Guglielmo Vicario has been performing at an exceptional level for Spurs, the ambitious board are looking to strengthen the position.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over Tottenham‘s interest in the German despite being currently sidelined, I explained: “I was a bit surprised at this one, that Tottenham were even in the market for another goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, who’s for me done a good job since he joined the club.

“He’s part of the leadership group at Tottenham as well under Thomas Frank and his records have been very good this season.

“Tottenham have one of the best defensive records and kept one of the most clean sheets in the Premier League as well.

“They’re right up there with the likes of Arsenal. So again, why they would be in the market for another goalkeeper was a bit surprising to me.

“And there’s a lot of question marks over Ter Stegen. He’s currently sidelined with an injury as well. What’s he going to be like when he comes back?

“Would any club be willing to take a chance on him due to his lack of football in recent months as well? There’ll be question marks over that.”

Tottenham forced to wait to bring Harry Kane back home

Sources told Football Insider that Bayern Munich are opening contract talks with Harry Kane after interest from Spurs over a return to the Premier League.

The 32-year-old’s current deal will expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, suggesting Frank would be willing to wait until he was a free agent.

Yet, the latest developments in contract negotiations indicate that Vincent Kompany sees the England international as part of his long-term project in Germany.

The Bavarian giants are unwilling to let their key man go, especially given the outrageous form he is in.
