Mark Goldbridge delivers strong verdict on Man United transfer news: ‘Damage is done’

Manchester United’s latest announcement over their transfer dealings has left The United Stand presenter Mark Goldbridge stunned.

Goldbridge has already been critical of United in the transfer window after hammering the club’s pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

United have had two bids rejected for the Bees top goal scorer and have also been unsuccessful in their attempts to convince Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres to join the Red Devils over rivals Arsenal.

Amorim’s only transfer success so far has been the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5million.

Five players have also said they want to leave Old Trafford this summer as Amorim faces a major squad rebuild ahead of next season.

Now with pre-season already back underway at Carrington, the club are looking for a new Head of Senior Recruitment.

The Athletic reported the appointment was “part of the ongoing restructuring and attempted modernisation of the scouting network.”

However, Goldbridge was not impressed with the news, taking to X to share his thoughts before claiming “the damage is done.”

Amorim’s lengthy transfer list gives Head of Recruitment mammoth task

Football Insider Verdict

United’s new head of recruitment will have plenty of work to do when they start their first day on the job.

Numerous players, including Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, are set to leave the club this summer leaving Amorim with many replacements to find.

United only scored 44 goals in 38 Premier League games and whilst the arrival of Cunha will help, Amorim requires a proven goal scorer.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund both could depart and they only scored a combined seven Premier League goals last season.

Christian Eriksen has left following the expiry of his contract and question marks remain over Kobbie Mainoo’s future so a centre midfielder may also be required, with Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz linked.

In Amorim’s three at the back system the Portuguese needs to find full-back or wingers who are comfortable to fulfill those roles.

Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans were two more players to leave on a free so Amorim will probably need a new centre-back.

An upgrade in goal is also on the manager’s shortlist with Andre Onana attracting interest from Monaco.

However, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider United were handed more bad news in their transfer activity as rivals Chelsea are set to hijack their deal of Aston Villa number one Emi Martinez who they had seen as Onana’s replacement.
