Mark Lawrenson makes shock Tottenham v Sunderland prediction

By Dominic Toner

Mark Lawrenson has predicted Tottenham to suffer a shock defeat against Sunderland in the Premier League.

Spurs travel to the Stadium of Light in the league and will be looking to continue their good run.

The north London club are unbeaten in their last nine games across all competitions and are still hopeful of competing for the league title.

They are currently third-placed and nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea, who travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Tuesday.

Lawrenson has backed relegation-threatened Sunderland to cause a massive upset and derail Spurs’ title bid.

‘They (Spurs) are on a great run, but I actually think it will be difficult for Spurs to adjust when most of their regulars come back into the team,” Lawrenson said, as quoted by BBC Sport. “Sunderland did not have a game at the weekend so they will be ready for them, and I am going for a bit of a shock result here.”

Spurs will start as strong favourites to earn the three points on Tuesday night and continue the chase of the title.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded a narrow 1-0 victory against Sunderland in September, when Harry Kane scored the opening goal.

The Londoners have been give a boost ahead of the second meeting as Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Kane are all expected back from injury.

In other Tottenham news, a defender is set for a medical on Tuesday with an English side after interest from Spurs.
