Mark Lawrenson predicts West Ham v West Brom, slams these signings

Mark Lawrenson believes West Ham will record a 1-1 draw against West Brom on Saturday afternoon at the London Stadium.

BBC Sports pundit Lawrenson slammed the club’s summer signings by stating that they were “not good enough”.

The club signed the likes of attacking trio Simone Zaza, Ashley Fletcher and Jonathan Calleri who scored only one Premier League goal between them.

Italy international Zaza has since seen his loan move terminated as the club added new fresh faces in January added with the outgoings.

Scotland playmaker Robert Snodgrass joined from Premier League rivals Hull with Frenchman Dimitri Payet moving back to his former club Marseille.

Ahead of West Ham’s clash against the Baggies at the weekend, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson has explained what Slaven Bilic’s side are showing after Payet’s transfer.

“West Ham continue to climb the table and are now only one place behind West Brom,” Lawrenson told the BBC Sports website.

“Both teams are ticking along nicely in the top half, and West Ham are showing what a good team they are now the Dimitri Payet saga is over.

“Robert Snodgrass is a very good signing for them, especially when you consider the players they brought in over the summer – many of them were not good enough.”

Bilic’s side are ninth in the league table on 31 points from their 24 games, five points behind Tony Pulis’ team.

The Hammers beat Southampton 3-1 during their last fixture with striker Andy Carroll finding the back of the net.

However, Bilic side, who started off the season flirting with relegation, have had the majority of their problems at their new stadium.

The likes of Watford and Arsenal have scored nine goals combined during their visits, while Manchester City have scored the same number of goals during their FA Cup and league matches at the London Stadium.
