Preston North End are plotting a late-window move for Doncaster Rovers defender Joe Wright, Football Insider can reveal.

The busy Championship club are looking to recruit a new centre-back before Monday's deadline.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider Wright could be available for a small fee as he is out of contract in the summer.

Preston tracked Wright while watching Ben Whiteman, who they signed from Doncaster earlier this month, as first revealed by this site.

North End are in desperate need of cover at centre-back with contract rebel Ben Davies attracting the interest of both Celtic and Bournemouth.

Pearson signed for Bournemouth today after making it clear to North End his future lay elsewhere.

Davies' regular partner Patrick Bauer picked up a season-ending injury against the Cherries last month meaning veteran Paul Huntington has partnered Davies at the back.

The Lilywhites are also interested in Liverpool youngster Sepp van den Berg who has been given the green light to leave on this month.

With four of the five loan spaces already filled by Greg Cunningham, Ched Evans, Jayson Molumby and Daniel Iversen a permanent deal for Wright would allow them to add another loanee further up the pitch.

Wright, 25, has played over 100 times for Rovers since moving from Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2016.
