Alan Hutton believes Jose Mourinho will have been "annoyed" at missing out on Antonio Rudiger but suggested Tottenham may still sign Swansea City's Joe Rodon in the domestic window.

The former Spurs full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the addition of another central defender would have been the "icing on the cake" to a "fantastic" window.

The Lilywhites were in for the Germany international after they refused to meet Inter Milan's £40million demands for Milan Skriniar.

Hutton believes that a new centre-back would have been ideal and that both Rudiger and Skriniar would have helped Mourinho's cause no end.

Hutton told Football Insider: "I think they've had a fantastic window, that was probably the icing on the cake, to bring in another centre-half.

"I think the ones they were looking add would have been very good to come in and really strengthen them and kick them on even further. They've had a fantastic start and they only want to add to that.

"They're still looking at the boy from Swansea (Joe Rodon, 22) I'm sure they were saying and from all accounts he's a decent player, so that's still an option.

"Probably a little bit annoyed he couldn't get a couple of their transfer targets over the line but still a very good transfer window."
