Sources: Stoke City & Cardiff City race to sign Evans on free transfer
Stoke City and Cardiff City are chasing Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans, Football Insider understands.
The Championship duo have made moves for the Northern Ireland international, whose Rovers contract expires this month.
A recruitment source told Football Insider that Stoke and Cardiff have registered their interest in Evans as they look to land him on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old was one of 11 senior players named on Rovers' released list on 14th May as the club looks towards a revamp following an underwhelming season in the Championship.
Evans is renowned for his positional sense from his deep midfield position and made 220 appearances during his time at Ewood Park.
The 65-cap Northern Ireland international is the club's longest-serving player having racked up eight years worth of service.
He arrived in the summer of 2013 from Hull City alongside fellow Tigers midfielder Tom Cairney.
Evans graduated from Man United's prestigious youth academy in 2009 and made his professional debut during a one-month emergency loan spell with Carlisle United
He failed to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils before quitting for Hull City in 2011.
He established himself as a first-team regular in his two campaigns with Hull and made just shy of a century of appearances.
Evans joined Rovers ahead of their second season in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League in 2012.
Stoke City finished in 14th place in the second-tier in 2020-21 and are understood to be keen on a rebuild as they look to trim their wage bill.
They could soon be two midfielders light because, as reported by Football Insider on 20th June, Sam Clucas is a target for West Brom while Ryan Woods is in advanced talks with Birmingham City.
Cardiff meanwhile enjoyed a promising second half of the campaign following Mick McCarthy's appointment in January.
