‘Mathys Tel wants Arsenal or Man United move over Tottenham deal’

Mathys Tel would choose to join Arsenal or Man United over Tottenham if given the chance before the deadline, according to Jamie Carragher.

Tel is set to join Spurs on a loan deal with no option to buy, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, in a transfer deadline twist after the 19-year-old had originally turned down the move.

A number of clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man United, were interested in signing Tel, but he is now set to move to the Lilywhites.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports News, suggested that Tel would have likely chosen Arsenal or United over Spurs, which could explain his initial rejection of the move.

He said to the question of whether Tottenham fans will accept him after the u-turn (4:02pm): “They’ll have to. It doesn’t look as if they’ll have too many options.

“But to be fair to the lad if you’re getting the option, if Arsenal or Manchester United were there you’d probably pick those clubs ahead of Tottenham. So I could understand that.

“The fact that Tottenham looks like they’re maybe getting him on loan now, I think that’s a really good deal for both teams. He can have a look at Tottenham, Tottenham can have a look at him.”

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou will be pleased with key reinforcements

Football Insider Verdict

Football Insider revealed last week (27 January) that Ange Postecoglou had been pushing for at least two more additions. It seems that Kevin Danso, who was officially announced, and Tel are set to be the two key reinforcements.

Following an injury to Radu Dragusin, Spurs have been in the market for a new centre-back. Axel Disasi has emerged as a potential option, though he has faced some fan disapproval.

Tel, a talented young forward, has struggled for opportunities at Bayern Munich under manager Vincent Kompany.

The versatile 19-year-old, capable of playing on either wing or as a forward, has impressed with 12 goals and six assists in his first 60 Bundesliga appearances.

His arrival will provide much-needed depth to Postecoglou’s squad, and Spurs will be relieved that Premier League rivals did not secure his signature instead.

In other news, Richarlison may be leaving Tottenham in the January transfer window.
