‘I don’t know why’ – Caixinha makes claim about Rangers loss v Motherwell

By James Black

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has claimed that he ‘doesn’t know’ how his side lost 2-0 in the League Cup semi-final to Mothewell on Sunday but suggested his expectations may have created an “anxiety” within his dressing room.

Caixinha had said in the build-up to the game that he expected his side to win but admitted the came nowhere close to what was required at the national stadium.

Louis Moult’s second-half double booked the Steelmen’s place in next month’s final against Celtic as the Gers huffed and puffed their way through a controversial game.

Caixinha now has to lift his side for Wednesday’s clash with Kilmarnock but accepted that he has to take responsilbity for the defeat by Motherwell.

“Congratulations to the team that won the game,” Caixinha said at full-time as quoted by the Evening Telegraph website.

He added: “Maybe I created a lot of expectation, I am always like that, maybe I created a sort of anxiety.

“I don’t know why they underperformed, individually and collectively.

“It is up to me.”

Caixinha was sent to the stands by referee Steven McLean after Fabio Cardoso had his nose broken by a vicious elbow by Ryan Bowman in the second-half.

The Gers will now likely be without the defender for the immediate future and could also lose Bruno Alves if the Scottish FA’s complaince officer takes a look at his kick at Louis Moult.

Since taking over in March, Rangers have failed to win three games on the spin under Caixinha and the pressure is beggining to build on the Ibrox boss.
