McAvennie blown away by three Rangers players and fans will love his Ryan Kent verdict

Frank McAvennie has hailed three Rangers stars and reserved especially significant praise for Ryan Kent.

The former Hoops striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was hesitant to credit Rangers given the poverty of Celtic but was wowed by a few Ibrox stars.

The Gers smashed Celtic 4-1 on Sunday as a Kemar Roofe brace and goals from Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe wrapped up the win.

Celtic went down to 10 men in the first half but managed to equalise through Odsonne Edouard.

Roofe, 28, won plenty of plaudits for his brace, especially for the improvised finish he used to score his first.

“I was impressed with Rangers but to be fair, they were playing against nobody,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“[Ryan] Kent was all over the place, they couldn’t get near him. They were letting 38-year-old [Steven] Davis dictate the play.

“I get it, Roofe’s a good striker and I’m not taking anything away from him at all.

“But let’s be honest, the Celtic defence has been the worst it’s ever been this year and they were especially bad on Sunday.

“I wouldn’t be too complimentary of him [Roofe] but he still has to do it, score those goals.

“I’d have been busting to have a go at that Celtic defence.”

Roofe‘s goals were his first Scottish Premiership strikes of 2021 and his 11th and 12th league goals for Rangers.

His only other goals in 2021 came in the Scottish Cup win over Cove Rangers as he grabbed another brace.

In other news, a Premier League giant has made a move to re-sign a Rangers 25-year-old with a five-year deal being offered.
