McAvennie delivers upbeat Ntcham verdict after Celtic slash asking price by £3m

Olivier Ntcham should be handed a fresh start when he returns to Celtic after his Marseille loan spell, according to Frank McAvennie.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped a Parkhead return for the 25-year-old now Neil Lennon has left the club.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Ntcham has made it clear he wants a permanent departure in the summer.

However, Football Insider‘s finance expert, Keiran Maguire, claims the collapse of a £3billion French TV deal means French clubs may not be able to afford the midfielder.

This site revealed on January 20 that Celtic had slashed their asking price for Ntcham to just £7million but sources have told Football Insider that £4m would now be enough to seal a deal.

McAvennie claims ‘something happened’ between Ntcham and Lennon behind the scenes and tipped Ntcham’s return now a new manager is set to arrive.

“I like him as a player, I really do,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“For me, he didn’t get enough games. I don’t know what his attitude is like but he’s barely kicked a ball in France.

“I don’t know his current situation but I like him. I would not be disappointed if he came back and had a fresh start under whoever the new manager is.

“The boy can play. Something happened with him and Lennon before he went. So now he’s gone, who knows?

“He’s a Celtic player and Celtic need good players this summer, he knows what’s needed. New manager, clean slate.”

Ntcham has so far made six appearances for Marseille.

He only has 207 minutes to his name since joining the club on loan in January.
