McAvennie ‘hears’ Rangers transfer news that fans will absolutely love

Frank McAvennie claims Filip Helander needs to back up his words after speaking about his Rangers future.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the defender’s new comments recent transfer speculation.

As revealed by Football Insider on 27th April, Rangers could sell Helander and George Edmundson this summer to help raise transfer funds.

Helander, 28, is quoted by the Daily Record as saying he has “not set any goals to play in England”.

The Swede joined Rangers in the summer of 2019 and to date, has never lost a league match with the club.

He made 31 appearances for the Gers last season and scored two goals in the Europa League.

McAvennie claims Helander can say what he wants but he has to back that up by staying at Ibrox this season.

“It’s great to hear as a Rangers fan,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Whether he means it or not, that’s the issue. We still have to see that.

“Until you’re sold, you are a Rangers player and it’s rare you get a player who talks about wanting to go.

“He’s got to prove what he means now and stay, otherwise he’ll look daft.”

Helander started his career with Malmo before moving to Italian side Hellas Verona.

He then moved to Bologna before joining Rangers and helping them to win their 55th title last season.
