McAvennie in no doubt about Elyounoussi staying at Celtic after price slashed by £5m
Frank McAvennie has tipped Celtic to turn down the opportunity to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi permanently despite his price tag tumbling.
The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old is “not bothered” about the club’s demise this season.
Elyounoussi has contributed 13 goals and six assists in 37 appearances during his second season-long loan spell at Parkhead.
In a recent interview quoted by the Glasgow Times, the winger remained coy on his future and claimed he would evaluate his options at the end of the season.
However, McAvennie does not expect Celtic to pursue the permanent signing of the Southampton attacker.
“All of the loan players will go back,” he told Football Insider. “I am sure we will get rid of them.
“I have never seen so many loan players at Celtic. They are not bothered by what’s happening because they are all going away.
“I don’t think they will offer Elyounoussi a contract, no. I cannot see him being there next season.
“Whoever comes in is going to have a clean sweep. There needs to be big change in the summer.”
Football Insider understands that Elyounoussi will likely be available for around £5million this summer after his price tag was slashed by £5m.
His future could well depend on who is appointed Neil Lennon’s successor at Parkhead, with the club to seek the council of former manager Martin O’Neill in their search.
In other news, Frank McAvennie names the only five players who should survive a summer cull at Celtic Park.
