McAvennie issues emphatic Erling Haaland verdict after Man City reveal

Frank McAvennie has insisted Erling Haaland is the “best centre-forward in the world” despite his quiet performance for Man City against Bournemouth.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said it will “take a few weeks” for the 22-year-old to learn how to play against teams like the Cherries.

City beat Scott Parkers side 4-0 at the Etihad on Saturday (13 August).

As revealed by OptaJoe (13 August), the Norway international had just eight touches during his 74 minutes on the pitch.

The striker completed just two passes over the course of the match, of which one was from a kick-off.

Despite the lack of involvement, Haaland managed to provide the assist for Ilkay Gundogan’s opening goal.

When asked if a lack of involvement on Saturday will knock Haaland’s confidence, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No he’s too good for that, he’s way past that.

It was a different game at the weekend, they were fighting for everything. He found it tough but he’s going to have games like that. He only got eight touches of the ball and created something, that shows you what Man City is all about.

It will take a few weeks to work that out and iron things out but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. He’s the best centre-forward in the world so I don’t think his confidence will be shot too much.
