McCrorie: I might have to leave Rangers next season
By Abigail Withey
Rangers Under-20 goalkeeper Robbie McCrorie is eager to join his brother Ross in the Light Blues first-team but has recognised that he may need to develop his skills with another loan spell next season in order to achieve that.
Robbie, 19, was just eight when he joined the Gers and is currently on a season-long loan with League One side Berwick Rangers from the academy squad.
While his twin brother has recently broken into the senior squad, the young keeper is still focussed on reaching the first-team and has revealed that playing at Ibrox has always been his dream.
McCrorie admitted he may have to temporarily leave Rangers again next season.
“You have to keep your head down and work hard at a club as big as Rangers, then take your chance if it comes,” the teenage stopper explained, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“Maybe I’ll move up a level on loan next season. I’ll see what the manager wants.
“One day, though, the first team is obviously where I want to be. The dream has never changed, for me or Ross.”
Robbie has some hard competition at the club, as to break into the first-team would mean replacing fan favourite and mainstay keeper Wes Foderingham as well as back up stopper Jak Alnwick.
His centre-back brother Ross, also 19, recently made his debut during Rangers’ Scottish League Cup quarter final clash against Partick Thistle when he came on for injured Bruno Alves.
The defender impressed so much that he was called up to feature in the Gers starting XI to face Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
