McLeish: Antonio Colak could ‘explode’ at Rangers as ‘special’ verdict issued

Antonio Colak could prove to be a shrewd signing for Rangers as he moves closer to a move to Ibrox.

That’s according to former Gers boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the next potential arrival at Ibrox.

According to Sky Sports (29 June), Rangers have agreed a fee of £1.8million for the PAOK striker.

It is claimed the player is keen to move to Ibrox after finding opportunities limited in Greece.

Colak has scored three goals in 29 total games for the club though he bagged 22 in 41 games while on loan at Malmo for a spell during 2021.

McLeish insists Colak will need time to adapt to the Premiership and claims he should not be judged too quickly.

“If Van Bronckhorst is rubber-stamping it then you hope the player has something that is a wee bit special,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild

“At the same time, he is not a prolific goalscorer. That will no doubt rattle a few people and there will be comments about that.

“It’s a shrewd signing if he explodes in the Scottish league and that’s great for Rangers.

“You have to be patient just with that concern about him scoring goals. and for Rangers, you are only as good as your goalscorers.”

Colak has three Croatia caps to his name but is yet to score for his national side.

He has scored 128 goals in 300 games as a professional for 13 clubs.
