McLeish issues ‘serious’ Robertson injury claim at Liverpool after pre-Arsenal update

Alex McLeish has tipped Andy Robertson to start for Liverpool against Arsenal after an injury scare on Scotland duty.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it would take something “pretty serious” to keep his fellow countryman out of Saturday’s clash.

Speaking on Thursday (18th November), Jurgen Klopp confirmed there is a “good chance” the 27-year-old would feature against the Gunners.

The left-back limped off with a muscle problem late on in Scotland’s 2-0 win over Denmark.

Klopp admitted Robertson was “lucky” to avoid any serious damage and that it was likely a case of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

McLeish heralded the defender’s resilience and suggested he would be ready to start against Arsenal this weekend.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Andy is a tough cookie. He is very rarely injured.

“It would really have to be something pretty serious to stop him from making a full recovery.

“I would expect him to start. There’s not been any news that has come out of a tear or anything.

“You would expect the Liverpool medical team to sort him out for this next game.”

Robertson has started all but one of Liverpool’s last nine Premier League games.

He has also featured three of the Reds’ four Champions League group stage matches.

The Scottish full-back did miss the opening games of the season due to an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

Greece international Kostas Tsimikas deputised for Robertson in his absence.
