Medical passed: Tottenham close in on signing of speed machine – Times
By Harry Sykes
Tottenham have moved a step closer to signing Serge Aurier after he passed a medical at the club, according to a report.
The Times claim that the Paris Saint-Germain right-back is on the verge of completing a £23million move to the Premier League title challengers.
But it is said that a deal is not yet done as the defender requires special paperwork to enter the country, pending a decision being made public about his appeal against an assault conviction.
The development in Spurs’ pursuit of Aurier, 24, comes after chairman Daniel Levy flew to France earlier this week to put the finishing touches to the deal.
L’Equipe report that Aurier will complete a move to White Hart Lane if he can officially prove he appealed against a convertible two-month prison sentence.
The Ivory Coast international will be signed as a replacement for England right-back Kyle Walker, who joined Manchester City earlier this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
There remains some doubt as to whether Spurs can push this deal over the line. Levy is clearly doing all he can to overcome the red tape and legal hurdles blocking the transfer of a player who is ideally suited to the three-man centre-back system he appears to have in mind this season. Like Walker, Aurier’s game is based upon explosive speed and the ability to surge up and down the right flank. He is a huge attacking asset and has the pace to recover quickly when he is caught upfield. The Ivory Coast international is entering his peak years and can take Spurs to the next level.
