Medical on Thursday: Liverpool on the verge of £8m+ defender signing – reliable journalist

By Danny Wright

Andrew Robertson is scheduled to have a medical on Thursday ahead of signing for Liverpool, according to a reliable journalist.

Northern football correspondent for the Times Paul Joyce claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the 23-year-old defender will move to Anfield in a deal worth in excess of £8million.

It is understood that the fee could rise as high as £10million in the future.

Robertson has been a mainstay of the Hull squad for the past few seasons and despite their relegation from the Premier League last time out, he lit up the KCOM Stadium with his marauding displays in the left-back position.

He made 39 appearances across all competitions for the Tigers in the 2016/17 campaign, scoring one goal and supplying three assists.

The 15-times Scotland international now looks to have played his final game for the Humberside club, which unfortunately came in a 7-1 mauling at the hands of Tottenham in May.

Liverpool have been notably short of a traditional left-back following the severe drop in form of Alberto Moreno.

The Spaniard’s awful displays saw James Milner play out of position last term, but he impressed the Anfield faithful with his brilliant versatility.

Football Insider Verdict

Robertson has a very promising future ahead of him and has the potential to become one of the best British full-backs. He will definitely get first-team football at Anfield due to Jurgen Klopp’s left-back crisis and the initial fee of £8million represents somewhat of a bargain. It’s about time that Klopp made some improvements to his defence. Mohamed Salah’s signing could work out well, but he certainly wasn’t someone that was desperately needed in a team which has Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane who can all play in similar roles. Liverpool do need a new centre-back to partner Joel Matip next.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp is eager to sign this World Cup winning Bundesliga star, but faces competition from two league champions.
