Michael Keane: ‘Absolutely dreadful’ Everton star certain for axe after update – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted “absolutely dreadful” Everton defender Michael Keane will be replaced by Yerry Mina when the Colombian returns to fitness.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old’s lack of “pace and intelligence” makes him a prime candidate for the axe.

According to Football Insider injury expert Ben Dinnery (28 March), who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis, Mina will step up his recovery from injury at the Everton training ground this week.

The former Barcelona star has been sidelined with a thigh problem since the Toffees’ 3-1 defeat against Newcastle in early February.

12-time England international Keane has started 25 games in the Premier League this term.

However, Agbonlahor claimed his run in the side will come to an end when Mina makes a full recovery.

“Michael Keane has been absolutely dreadful in recent months,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s lacked the pace, and he’s even lacked the intelligence at times.

“Mina coming back, for me, will be massive. I love him. He’s a big, physical, giant of a defender. He’s fairly quick, too.

“He’ll be one that I’m sure Frank Lampard will be relying on, they’ll be buzzing to get him back.

“Lampard has got a lot to sort out in the summer with that defence.”

Mina has managed just 11 appearances in all competitions this term after struggling with thigh problems.

Everton sit 17th in the Premier League – just three points clear of the drop zone.
